More Awards You Can Earn!

Although the Pack focuses it's efforts on helping the boys complete the requirements for their respective ranks, there are several programs that the boys can work on independently or under the direction of their den leader or parents.  Click on the links for more information.  All links come from  ussspdivnew.gif (3230 bytes)

Cub Scout World Conservation Award Patch

Cub Scout
World Conservation Award

Our Wolf den earns this award every year!

The World Conservation Award provides an opportunity for individual Cub Scouts to "think globally" and "act locally" to preserve and improve our environment. This program is designed to make youth members aware that all nations are closely related through natural resources and that we are interdependent with our world environment.

The Cub Scout version of the World Conservation Award can be earned by Wolf or Bear Cub Scouts, and by Webelos Scouts.  (This award can be earned only once while you are in Cub Scouting either as a Wolf Cub Scout, a Bear Cub Scout, or as a Webelos Scout).

See your books for requirement details or go to:  http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/worldcons.asp

 Cub Scout
Academics and Sports Program

Many belt loops and several pins are earned by our Cubs every year!

The Cub Scout Academics and Sports program (AKA the "Belt Loop Program") is a supplementalSports and Academic Program Patch enrichment program that complements the existing Cub Scout program. The Academics subjects and, Sports activities allow boys to learn new techniques, increase scholarship skills, develop sportsmanship - and have fun. Boys participating in the program will be recognized for enjoying teamwork, developing physical fitness, and discovering and building new talents. The Academics and Sports program encourages a boy to do his best.

A variety of recognition items are available for the boys (Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, or Webelos Scouts) who participate in the program. (Adults are NOT awarded with belt loops or pins.)

  • Belt loops are awarded to boys who complete the three belt loop requirements in an academic subject or sport. Academic belt loops are gold, and Sports belt loops are silver (except for the Archery and BB-gun Shooting belt loops, which are brass colored)
  • Pins are awarded to boys who choose to continue their involvement in an Academics or Sports area and earn the pin by meeting the appropriate requirements. Pins are worn on the Cub Scout Academic and Sports letter
  • The Academic and Sports letter (pictured above) is available to boys for displaying Academics and Sports pins that Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts earn. The letter, a large Blue and Gold "C", representing Cub Scouts can be worn on a sweater or jacket, or displayed or framed. It does NOT go on the uniform. There are NO specific requirements for earning the letter, as it is designed merely to display the pins.

Click on the blue links to see the requirements for each belt loop and pin.

Religious Emblems
for Cub Scouts

cubreligious.gif (53145 bytes)

"A Scout is reverent."

All Scouts show this by being faithful in their duty to God. Some go further and give special service. This can qualify them for a religious emblem. Such an emblem is not a Scouting award. It is conferred on a Scout by his religious leader. Each faith has its own requirements for earning its emblem.

Please speak with your own religious leader about working together to complete the requirements for your respective medal.  The Council Office has the books for many of the faiths.  The medal is presented by the religious leader, the square knot is presented by the pack and is transferred to the Boy Scout uniform.

Click on the link above or go to www.praypub.org for more information and a list of medals for each faith.

Three of our cubs earned this award in 2007!

Tiger Cubs, Wolf and Bear Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts have the opportunity to earn the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award. Boys may earn the award in each of the program years as long as the requirements are completed each year. The first time the award is earned, the boy will receive the pocket flap award (shown above), which is to be worn on the right pocket flap of the uniform shirt. Each successive time the award is earned, a wolf track pin (also shown above) may be added to the flap. Leaders should encourage boys to build on skills and experiences from previous years when working on the award for a successive year.

     The BSA Family Program

A family may earn the BSA Family Award.  The purposes of the BSA Family program are twofold: 1) to strengthen families, and 2) to encourage family involvement in Scouting.   The family will complete, within a 12-month period, five requirements to earn the award. Two of the requirements are mandatory and three may be the family's choice.

In much the same way that Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts use their handbooks to earn their badges and awards, the family uses the BSA Family Activity Book to earn the BSA Family Award.    It is filled with suggested activities to enhance personal development and enrich and strengthen the family.

The BSA Family Activity Book is divided into five categories that include several topics of interest to families. Each topic contains suggested activities for a family to do together. These activities could include going on field trips; telling stories; doing arts and crafts projects; playing games; participating in family discussions; or making lists, charts, and scrapbooks.

The handbooks are available at the Council Office.

The following Award is NOT a BSA Award, but is referenced for your information, since it can be earned by Cub Scouts:

  • United States Silver Heritage Awards

The United States Heritage Award was designed by scouts and adults to give youth recognition for learning about the heritage of the United States of America, and showing patriotism. By earning this award, youth can cultivate an appreciation for the wonderful heritage of the United States of America.

A silver medal and a patch can be awarded to all that successfully complete the award requirements. All requirements can be done with a class, unit, group, family, or individually.

Note:  Neither the medal nor the patch can not be worn on the uniform, but may be worn on a patch vest.
